Hello, everyone. Welcome back to another edition of Dog Dayz. I hope everbody had a great Christmas and a happy New Year.

This winter break has been nice for me to relax and not worry about the stresses of school. Christmas was great — as always — with family, friends and some awesome presents. I’ve also had fun continuing basketball.

Before I went to break, Food Bowl finished up. We had many great events such as the paper bag drive, the talent show, the auction, the boys buff volleyball, and the Old Timee Radio Show. You can imagine a lot of time and preparation went into these events. As a student of Montesano I am proud to announce that Montesano won. Of course, the big winners through the event are the people being fed by the food and money brought in. Thank you to everyone who participated and donated — it means a lot.

We had our end of the season football banquet this month. It was a fun night with the players and coaches. The booster club did a great job of making it special for us. It was an especially awesome night for me, because senior Nick Chapman passed his jersey, number 9, down to me. It’s going to be sad to not see him play again in Montesano, but I plan on carrying on the great tradition of number 9. Matthew Jensen, Jake Herzog, Nick Chapman, and now me. I plan on continuing the legacy. The banquet was also pretty emotional because the seniors were officially done with their Montesano football careers. I want to thank them, because they were an awesome class of guys to look up to.

Christmas was great. To start things off, on the night before Christmas Eve, we went to our church’s Christmas Eve, Eve service. This is where we forgot about the presents and reminded ourselves of the real reason for the season. It was really good. On Christmas Eve we spent time with family at my Nana and Papa’s house. Then we went back to their house for breakfast the next morning after opening presents at home. My Nana always makes a delicious breakfast bake casserole. After that, we went to my aunt’s house and spent time with more family. Overall it was a great time spent enjoying family and I did get some cool presents. I got a smart tv, a couch for my room and a new bat that I will put to good use this season.

As I said, I still have had basketball during the break. We’ve had practice and three games so far. My team was 2-1 over the break. We now hold a 4-3 record and I feel we are working well together. The varsity has played well this year and will be a threat in the Evergreen League for sure. The girls are doing well, too. I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

Also, with basketball is Little Dribblers. The camp portion of it is over, so it is now time for the games. The camp was really fun with all the kids. I am sure the games will be, too. If I am not a coach, I will be a referee. I enjoy doing it because it’s all for the kids and the future of the program. Some of the teams will even get to play at halftime of the high school games.

On a sad note, as many of you know, Mike Malpass passed away. It is a very sad loss for our little community who loved him. I had a lot of respect for him, and his death has hit everyone hard. He made a huge impact and will be remembered and missed.

Finally, other fun stuff I did this month was watching my sister and her soccer team, the Lightning, compete in state. It was an exciting experience, and to top it off, she and her team won state. It was awesome. I still haven’t managed to conquer such a feat.

This month I also went and watched the new Star Wars movie, because I had to go and watch it in theaters. It was a great movie.

Thank you all for reading this month’s edition of Dog Dayz and bring on 2017.
