Food Bank thanks Montesano residents

Last year, we provided services for 1,790 families accounting for 5,425 family members.

I wanted to take a few moments and share some of the Montesano Food Bank statistics with all of you. We have a very generous community, and I thought you would like to know how we are utilizing your donations.

Last year, we provided services for 1,790 families accounting for 5,425 family members. This averages out on a monthly basis to slightly over 149 families, representing 452 family members. Now of course there are not 1,790 different families receiving our services, these numbers represent families that return multiple times over the year. Now keep in mind that we do see new families each month and some of the repeat families stop coming in.

Last year, we dispensed a total of 91,377 pounds of food. Utilizing, “Montesano Math,” that number works out to just less than 4 tons on a monthly basis.

We are open 4 days a month, 1-3 p.m Fridays. On the rare occasions when there are 5 Fridays. We are closed. (Our rotation is designed for our clients to receive services once a month. If people require more than that, they receive fewer food items to hold them over to the next month.)

We do not have any paid staff and currently have about 20 active volunteers. They are dedicated individuals who donate several hours each week. It is an honor to get the opportunity to work alongside them.

I hope this helps explain the volumes of food and number of families that benefit from the donations this community provides. Without your help, we could not provide the services that we currently do.

Thank You.

Montesano Food Bank director
