Montesano Major League team bows out of state Little League tourney

Marysville defeats Monte 10-9.

FEDERAL WAY — Falling barely short with a late rally, Montesano bowed out of the Washington State Major League Little League Tournament on Tuesday with a 10-9 loss to Marysville at Federal Way.

The District III champion, Monte finished with a 1-2 state record.

Capitalizing heavily on Montesano errors, Marysville led 10-5 entering Monte’s half of the fifth inning. Jackson Busz’s single, Josh Wills’ RBI triple and Bode Poler’s two-run homer in that inning trimmed the deficit to two.

Montesano’s Cole Sigler belted his first career homer with one out in the sixth, but Marysville’s pitcher retired the final two batters.

In addition to Sigler and Poler, Jayden McElravy homered for Montesano. Those three and Busz delivered two hits apiece.

Montesano had put on a power show in its lone state victory, a 17-2 rout of North Whidbey on Monday.

McElravy, Jake Salstrom and Donovan Anthony each homered in that game for Monte. It was the first career home run for Salstrom, who also tripled. McElravy and Daunte Anthony had three hits apiece, while Poler added two hits.

Receiving relief help from Donovan Anthony, Wills, Denali Harris and Sigler, McElravy pitched the first 2 2/3 innings to pick up the victory.
