Food Bowl gets everyone involved

Towns generosity shows

Welcome back to another edition of Dog Dayz. You are reading this in 2018, so happy New Year to everybody. The month of December is one of the best months of the year. School was out for the last half of it, and Christmas was pretty special. I am writing this before Christmas, however, because my family and I are taking a trip to Los Angeles after Christmas day. The school still had a very busy few weeks before we hit break.

Food Bowl dominated our lives during the two and a half week stretch of school. Every day presented our school with new ways to donate. There was a class competition that had each class bring in as much money as they could. I will get into more of that later, but here are some facts about Food Bowl. The money and cans the school brings in go directly to the food bank in town. People who need to, use the food bank once a month, and would starve without everything we do every year at Montesano. The best part is the high school gets a tremendous amount of help from the two elementary schools in town as well.

Montesano brought in over $30,000 in canned food for our Food Bank which was great. This year Elma had to do their event earlier because their food bank needed the food then. This may have caused a slight dent in the amount we brought in, because the competition between the two schools brings in more money — imagine that. Our town is still extremely generous, and our school is grateful to anyone who may have donated. Thank you!

A fun yet impactful way for our school to make as much money as we do is having each of our clubs contribute an event that helps raise money. Honor Society runs the Boys Buff Tournament which I participated in, as I said I was going to last month. We won it. Our team was the Big Ballers and we all wore NBA jerseys for the matches. It was a great time, and the Big Ballers will take the championship the next two years, mark my words. Another fun event was the talent show. We have many talented singers at our school, and kids with unique abilities. The best and funniest act in my opinion was the men’s cheerleading act. They did a lot of things real cheerleaders do, but also put a male spin on it, which was super entertaining. Other events that are held by various clubs are Rock ‘n’ Bowl Night, video game night, and family movie night that bring in a good amount of money as well.

School definitely felt longer during these weeks as the anticipation for winter break was there. I guess now that you’re reading this and we are out of the break this is irrelevant, but I hope you felt all of the great emotions that come with the season. I hope you had a great break.

As I said I am writing this before Christmas, because Christmas night I leave for Los Angeles. We are going to go to Disneyland for four to five days, and are going to go to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. The Washington State Cougars are playing the Michigan State Spartans and I am super excited. I am especially excited because I am a huge Cougars fan. At Disneyland I plan on hitting as many rides as possible, and enjoying the sun, because quite frankly, I haven’t seen it in a while.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year and still had time to remember the reason for the season. Thanks for reading.
