Summer vacation plans underway

A monthly column by The Vidette’s student columnist.

We are less than a month away from summer vacation. At least most of us are. I guess work never stops, but I am here to talk about the life of a student.

With my freshman year coming to an end, most of my friends have their driving permits, except me. State testing is coming to an end, and spring sports have come to a close. On to summer sports for me.

Am I nervous about driving? Heck yeah. Am I excited about it nevertheless? Heck yeah.

As I said, almost every one of my friends have a permit, except me and a couple other guys. My birthday is in the middle of June, and I am pumped. I will get to take drivers education during July. Time flies, but I am ready. These are thoughts that go through your head as a freshman, and as a sophomore you’ll actually be driving. I am taking drivers education at All-star in Aberdeen. Not because I am an all-star at driving, but hopefully they can turn me into one. At Montesano, you can also take a drivers education course at the school, but I am just too busy for it, with all of my summer plans.

This month my freshman baseball season came to an end. I was pretty sad, because I had a great team and great coaches. In fact, we only lost one game the entire year to a much bigger school. For this reason, we awarded ourselves the title of “JV State Champs.” However, this week I am starting summer baseball. For baseball I was selected to play for Montesano’s AA Team. I am super excited, and I feel like we have the talent to be playing deep into July in state.

In football I will practice for about three weeks, and then head on out to Central Washington University for camp, which is bound to be a great time.

Finally, in basketball I will play in the league held here in Montesano, and some tournaments in Kelso, North bend and Seaside. It will be very busy next month, and I will be occupied with my favorite hobbies.

With school sports finishing, that means school in general is almost out. Just three more weeks of my freshman year. I can’t even think about it being my senior year. Yes, some of them are probably excited to take off, but I will bet most of them will be pretty sad. Graduation will be sad for me as well this year. I thought the senior class was pretty great. They helped me get through the year season by season, month by month with helpful information and encouragement. So thank you to the senior class, you guys were a good one.

At the end of the year there is also testing and elections for the next year.

In the last month there has been a lot of testing throughout the school. I have not tested yet, but I do have my Biology E.O.C. coming up which I am pretty confident about. I have to pass it to graduate, but I am going to try to not sweat it. However, I know that next year will be pretty rough, because your sophomore year is jam packed with testing for every subject practically.

Next, every club is having or has had their elections for next year’s officers. In high school ASB Madelyn Prall is the new president, and Morgan Kersker, Matti Ekerson, and Ben Royer were all re-elected officers as well. I am running for sophomore class sergeant of arms, and have a pretty tough opponent who is just as deserving as I am, so we’ll see how it goes. Of course I want to win — I love ASB and being super involved and a part of everything around the school. I guess I will see what happens and let you guys know.

Enjoy your start to summer, and spend it in the best ways possible.
