Parshall, Sundstrom notch season titles

Two Hoquiam drivers wrapped up season titles in the final races of the season at Grays Harbor Raceway.

Jack Parshall of Hoquiam earned his fourth consecutive title in the Street Stocks classification. Tyler Sundstrom, also of Hoquiam, notched the Outlaw Tuners championship.

Reece Goetz of Snohomish and Kyler Moore of Seabeck were the other season champions, in the 360 Sprint Car and Modified classifications, respectively.

Street Stocks

Parshall started in the back row but worked his way through the field while Aberdeen’s Shane Kerrigan set the pace during the main event.

Kerrigan took the white flag entering the final lap, but Parshall was poised less than a car length away. The Hoquiam driver then went to the outside on turn four and outsprinted Kerrigan to the finish.

Outlaw Tuners

Sundstrom owned the pole for the 15-lap main event, but ran second behind Josh Wharton of Tenino in the early stages of the race.

When lapped traffic slowed Wharton, Sundstrom surged into the lead midway through the feature and steadily pulled away. Max Sanford of Belfair finished second and Wharton placed third.

A fire under the hood of a car driven by Jason McCaslin of Centralia brought out the red flag on the fifth lap. McCaslin was apparently not injured.

360 Sprint Cars

Goetz battled his brother Chase early in the main event before holding off J.J. Hickle of Quilcene in the late going.

Reece Goetz led for much of the race, but a late-race caution stacked up the field.

Hickle looked to make an outside pass on the final lap but was unable to overtake Goetz. Elma driver Jason Reed placed third.

Modifieds

Moore took the lead on the 11th lap of the 25-lap main event.

Slowly pulling away from Scott Miller of Shelton and Tom Sweatman of Cosmopolis, Moore survived a re-start when the car driven by Steve Signal of Olympia flipped out on the 24th lap.

Moore, however, held off Oakville’s Brian Harding on the final lap to take the checkered flag. Sweatman finished third after mechanical issues sidelined Miller.
