Montesano hit a scoring run at the right time, going on a 10-0 run with a 1-point lead to establish control and stay alive in the District IV 1A boys basketball tournament at King’s Way Christian in Vancouver on Feb. 13.

Leading 51-50 in the third quarter, the Bulldogs started their run and never trailed again in knocking off Seton Catholic, 70-58, in a loser-out contest.

On Wednesday, Montesano (13-9) took on Evergreen 1A League rival Forks in a loser-out game at Rochester (the results of that match were unavailable when The Vidette went to press). The Spartans lost to King’s Way Christian, 67-59, in the late game.

Trevor Ridgway scored a game-high 20 points for the Bulldogs, with teammate L.J. Valley adding 17 points and five assists.

“I want to commend our bench, especially (Lyle) Burbidge, (Evan) Bates and (Shaydon) Farmer, who really provided the energy we were looking for off the bench,” Montesano head coach Doug Galloway said.

The Cougars kept the pace rolling like they did against the Bulldogs late in the regular season, but Monte ran with them and flourished at times. Monte won, 73-51, in the first meeting.

“They like to get up and down the floor and sub in every two minutes,” Galloway said. “They shot better (tonight) than when we played them the first time. We had to play a little faster and help out on defense, but we did a nice job of keeping our composure.”
