Monte loses to Puyallup

MONTESANO — The Vikings scored a pair of runs in the second, third and fourth innings to open up a 6-0 lead en route to handing Montesano its third loss of the season by a score of 7-2 on Monday.

Olivia Ellingson and Sidney Booth each homered for the Vikings, a 4A power with a 19-1 record on the season.

Down 7-0 in the sixth, Monte (16-3) plated a pair of runs on a run-scoring single by Jessica Stanfield followed by an RBI ground-out from Kate Klingler.

The Bulldogs face Stevenson at noon on Wednesday in the first round of the 1A District playoffs at Borst Park in Centralia.

Hit by pitch breakthrough

MONTESANO — Montesano’s Peyton Poler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie as the Bulldogs defeated Adna 4-2 on Saturday at Montesano High School.

Neither offense was able to put many runs up on the board thanks to the pitching of Monte’s Sam Stanfield and Adna’s Haley Rainey.

Stanfield held Adna (15-5 overall) to just two hits in pitching a complete game with 12 strikeouts and no walks.

Rainey allowed one earned run on three hits and five strikeouts in her four innings of work. She also did not walk a batter.

Monte (16-2) faces Stevenson at noon on Wednesday in the opening round of the 1A District Tournament.
