Tell me about yourself (profession and education):

Blankenship: I’m a retired state trooper with 27 years serving the citizens of Washignton State. Currently, I am employed by the Squaxin Island Police Department as a natural resource enforcement officer enforcing tribal hunting and fishing laws.

The budget is tight at McCleary — what would be your priorities for the City of McCleary’s budget issues?

Blankenship: My priority would be to look at how the city can reduce costs and increase revenue to achieve a balanced budget which, in turn, could help alleviate some of the financial pressure put on the citizens of McCleary.

Utility rates continue to increase and have been forecast to increase further over the next several years — how would you aim to address or limit those rising rates?

Blankenship: Recent rate increases by the Bonneville Power Association (5 percent-plus each year over next two years) is out of our control. Capital improvements will have to be prioritized to help minimize these increases.

What is your vision for the City of McCleary and how do you plan to make that vision a reality?

Blankenship: In order for the City of McCleary to succeed, we must select strategies which focuses and fosters the best positive interest and economic development for McCleary through the city’s comprehensive planning.
