Team Washington excels at National Duel Wrestling Competition

Sporting a Montesano coach and a young Bulldog, Team Washington placed its highest win in state history at the National Dual Wrestling Competition at Indianapolis June 7-11.

Team Washington placed within first and third for most categories.

“This was a total team effort,” said Washington State National dual director and head coach Sean Ekerson. “Past teams I have taken back always had the big name National Championship All-American wrestlers on it. This was as complete a team as I have ever seen with no big holes in it but a team-first perspective.”

Three Team Washington wrestlers made the All-Tournament Team, having gone undefeated in a particular style.

Four pools of teams competed in pool play and had to place top 2 to advance to the championship pool. Teams advancing from pool play were guaranteed All-American status (top 8 recognized). In Greco Roman wrestling Team Washington beat Team Illinois for the first time in History.

Six past Montesano wrestlers have competed in this competition as members of Team Washington. The 2017 team had Montesano incoming freshman Aiden Darst participate and wrestle on the All-American Team at 152-pound weight class.
