Parshall, Sundstrom among GHR winners

Jack Parshall rallies to win GHR feature

ELMA — Hoquiam driver Jack Parshall came from behind to capture the Street Stock main event Saturday at Grays Harbor Raceway.

Tyler Sundstrom of Aberdeen and Evan Margeson of Tacoma prevailed in the Outlaw Tuners and Midget classifications, respectively.

Starting in the second row, Parshall was still in third place when a spin-out by Rodger Perry brought out the caution flag on the ninth lap.

Jeff Daniel of Ocean Shores, running second to Montesano’s Taylor Fritts at the time, went to the work area during the caution. Following the restart, Parshall moved to the outside and passed Fritts on turn two of the 16th lap. The Hoquiam driver maintained the lead the rest of the way.

Tom Hecker of Spanaway also overtook Fritts to finish second, while Fritts settled for third.

A car driven by Daryl Brumfield of Matlock caught fire on the fifth lap. The fire was quickly extinguished and Brumfield exited the vehicle uninjured.

Outlaw Tuners

Sundstrom led most of the way to pick up his second victory of the season.

He outraced fellow Aberdeen driver Cory Sweatman during the early stages. As Sundstrom pulled away, Don Briggs Sr. of Wishkah moved into second, with Shelton’s Joseph Palmer placing third.

Midgets

Graham driver Nik Larson set the pace for much of the race, enjoying a slight advantage on Margeson until an accident resulted in a caution flag on the 15th lap.

The restart allowed Margeson to make his move and he overtook Larson on the second turn of the 17th lap.

Larson wound up second, with Nick Evans of Granite Falls finishing third.

The annual Pepsi Fair Race, a traditional component of the Grays Harbor County Fair, is scheduled for Saturday.

An early starting time of 5 p.m. is planned, with Street Stocks, Modifieds and Outlaw Tuners on the program. Admission to the races is free for those also attending the fair.
