Montesano’s girls basketball team is posting several wins to open the season.
The lady Bulldogs routed Onalaska 75-28 on Dec. 2 after defeating Eatonville 53-31 on Dec. 1.
Bulldogs vs. Loggers
Zoe Hutchings scored 23 points as Montesano remained unbeaten by routing Onalaska in a non-league away game on Dec. 2.
The Bulldogs (3-0) scored the game’s opening 13 points and forced 30 Logger turnovers.
“We tried to switch up our defenses and keep them off-balance,” Montesano coach Julie Graves said. “We started the game with a lot of energy and finished with a lot of energy. It was nice to play a complete 32-minute game.”
Samantha Stanfield had 14 points and seven rebounds, Zoee Lisherness had 13 points and 11 boards and Lexi Lovell swiped six steals for the Bulldogs. Montesano dished out 22 assists as a team, with Glory Grubb distributing six and Hannah Hatcher five.
Monte vs. Eatonville
Zoe Hutchings scored 24 points as Montesano trimmed Eatonville in a non-league away game on Dec. 1.
Hutchings was impressive but so was Monte’s defensive rotations that kept one of Eatonville’s leading scorers from taking over the game. The Bulldogs (2-0) limited Eatonville’s Samantha Swartout, who dropped in 21 points in the last game, to eight.
Coach Graves said she was impressed with the way her team defended Swartout.
“I really like the way we defended tonight,” Graves said. “Samantha Stanfield, Haylee Perkinson and Zoee Lisherness rotated to play defense on her all night.”
On offense, Montesano focused on getting the ball inside to Hutchings who did well finishing at the rim against a team hat was lacking size on the interior. She came away with 10 rebounds as well.
Grubb had six assists while Katie Granstrom added eight rebounds and four assists as well.
The Bulldogs hosted Rochester on Dec. 6. Results from that match were not available by the time The Vidette went to press.
