Monte boys rally to drop Tenino

Kloempken closes game with three shutout innings

Bulldogs 10, Beavers 7

Montesano rallied back from an early deficit to defeat Tenino in an Evergreen 1A League game on April 28 at Tenino.

The Bulldogs (9-0, 9-3) trailed 7-6 going into the sixth, but played small ball to score three in the inning. Montesano’s Nate Kloempken and Nick Chapman earned back-to-back walks to start the rally. Carson Klinger singled to score both runners and plate the go-ahead goal. Teegan Zillyett added an insurance run with a double to score Klinger before Dakoyta Reninger hit a solo home run in the seventh to cap the scoring.

“(Tenino) came out swinging,” Montesano head coach Mike Osgood said. “They just flat out hit the ball to start the game and that put us in catch up mode. Once we settled down, we started chipping away. It was just a back-and-forth game. We haven’t had to many of those so it was nice to see us get the win.”

Osgood cited Kloempken, who pitched three shutout innings to close the game, Reninger and Nick Chapman, who had three hits, for their performances.
