March 25

Eagles 1, Bearcats 1

Elma and Chehalis showed of plenty of defense as they played to a 1-1 tie in a non-league match at Chehalis on Saturday.

The Eagles (1-4-1) got on the board first in the 18th minute when a cross from Carlos Bautista was deflected by a Chehalis defender and past the goalkeeper.

Elma almost added a second in the 60th minute, but a free kick was just out of the reach of Trace Thompson.

Chehalis tied the match up in the 70th minute when the Bearcats were able to steal the ball and send a pass to the far post where it was kicked home.

“In the first half, we had a couple really good opportunities and we were able to control the ball, but we just weren’t able to get anything real dangerous,” Elma head coach Carson Seaberg said. “In the second half, they committed a few more people forwards. Overall, I was pretty happy with the game. It would have been nice to see it all the way through, but definitely an improvement in some areas as we continue to feel out where we are.”

Tarriers 8, Eagles 0

March 21

Eagles 3, Warriors 0

Trace Thompson scored the season’s first hat trick for Elma and lifted the hosts to a first win in a shutout of Rochester at Davis Field on March 21.

Christian DeLaConcha got the assist on the first Thompson goal, a through ball 20 yards out to allow Thompson to slide the ball past the Warriors’ goalkeeper in the 20th minute. Six minutes later, Thompson got his second when he one-touch shot an Alex Salas crossing pass for a 2-0 lead.

The senior forward secured the hat trick midway through the second half when his hard shot from 25 yards out skipped in front of the goalkeeper in the driving rain. With the field saturated with water, the ball hydroplaned into the net.

“We played relatively well; (Rochester) played well enough to put us into some dangerous situations, but never really threatened,” Seaberg said. “Trace had two point-blank shots saved and we stubbed our toes on another couple of shots.”

Elma goalkeeper AJ Hernandez, who was cleared to return to action on Monday, got the shutout.

Elma traveled to Forks on Tuesday, March 28. Results of that match were not available when The Vidette went to press.
