Chehalis River opens May 1 for spring chinook

Season set to run through June, limit one chinook daily

The Chehalis River will open for spring chinook salmon fishing May 1, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The state has forecast the number of spring chinook returning to the Chehalis to be sufficient to support the fishery, during which anglers can keep one chinook per day with a minimum size of 12 inches.

The season is scheduled to last through the end of June and covers the river from the mouth at the Highway 101 Bridge in Aberdeen upstream to the Highway 6 bridge in the town of Adna, a couple of miles west of the town of Chehalis. Steelhead and other fisheries will remain as described in the sport fishing rules pamphlet.
