MONTESANO — Rallying in the final two sets, Montesano outlasted Tenino, 25-13, 22-25, 22-25, 25-14, 15-8, in an Evergreen 1A League match Thursday at Bo Griffith Memorial Gym.

This was Cancer Awareness night at Montesano. Some $1,550 was raised to benefit Montesano High counselor Tami Herzog, who has been diagnosed with cancer.

McKenna Miller led Bulldog hitters with 13 kills. Emma Jensen had seven kills and Mylaina Parker six for Montesano (1-1, 4-4).

Monte setter Janessa Otterstetter contributed 36 assists, while Hannah Hatcher had 24 digs.

“They’ve been working on mental toughness,” Monte coach Renee Volz said. “They came together as a team and really pushed through.”

The Bulldogs won the JV match, 22-25, 25-17, 15-10. Tenino took the C squad contest, 16-25, 25-19, 15-10.

Montesano travels to Hoquiam on Tuesday.
