Bulldogs sweep

AUBURN — Montesano used stellar pitching to sweep both its opponents in a three-team doubleheader on March 17 at Auburn.

Samantha Stanfield pitched a three-hitter as the Bulldogs topped Auburn-Mountainview, 3-1. Lindsay Pace tossed a four-hitter in a 10-0 victory over Tahoma.

Stanfield struck out 11 and did not issue a single walk in the opener.

Pace helped her own cause in the nightcap with a home run and a double, driving in three runs. Abbi Parkin added three hits for the Bulldogs (3-0).

BUCKLEY — Lexi Lovell drove in three runs and winning pitcher Stanfield homered as Montesano trounced White River in a season-opening non-leaguer March 15 at Buckley.

Pace and Katie Granstrom had three hits apiece for the reigning state 1A champion Bulldogs.

“I thought it’s the best opening game that we’ve had in a long time, where the girls were able to get the timing of the pitching down and make adjustments in the on-deck circle,” Monte coach Pat Pace said. “We hit the ball very well for the first game out.”

He cited Payton Kersker for her defense and second and third base.
