Bulldogs split tennis against Tenino

TUMWATER — Class 2A Black Hills swept the doubles to top Montesano, 4-2, in a non-league match Friday at Tumwater.

The Bulldogs had opened Southwest Washington 1A League competition Thursday by trouncing Tenino, 4-1.

Montesano (1-0, 2-1) turned in an extremely competitive showing against Black Hills. Monte’s Emily Bodenhamer and Fatima Torres won singles matches and the Bulldogs pushed two of the three doubles to three sets.

Bodenhamer, Torres and Rachel Ayres swept the singles against Tenino. Ayres prevailed 6-0, 6-0, in the No. 1 singles match.

“I was happy to get the win and I was just as happy to get better competition (Friday),” Bulldog coach Teresa Helland said.

The Bulldogs return to action April 11 at home against Castle Rock.
