Verna Rae Patton passed away in Centralia on March 3, 2018, due to complications from a fall she suffered at home August 2017. She was born in Washington, Okla. on Oct. 31, 1938, to William H. Boley and Mary Sue (Lovelace) Boley. Verna graduated from Hoquiam in 1956. She married Glen Byrns in 1956 and they had three children, Glenda (aka Shammie), Billie Sue and Lloyd. They later divorced and on May 6, 1972 she married a man she truly adored, Larry W. Patton. They had one son, Robert Patton. Verna and Larry were mostly inseparable and enjoyed their lives together. They owned Oyehut Grocery in Ocean Shores and ran the business together while their children were growing up. She later went to work for Grays Harbor County in the Road Dept., retiring after 18 years of service in 2005.

Verna was a tough lady but generous and full of fun. She often did without in order to help others. Her interests included clam digging, gardening, hunting and canning with her husband and family. She also created beautiful and unique handwork.

Verna is survived by her children, Shammie (Robby) Robinson of Elma, Lloyd Byrns of Winnemucca, Nev., and Robert Patton of Ocean Shores. She had three step-children, Russell (Diane) Patton of Oregon, Kenneth (Carol) Patton of Tumwater, and Janel (Curt) Patton Lam of Lacey. She is also survived by her four brothers Glen (Jeannette) Boley, Larry (Cathy) Boley, Jerry (Betty) Boley, and Tom (Brenda) Boley. A fifth brother, Gaylon, the oldest, died as a teenager when the family lived in Kansas. Verna had many grandchildren, nieces and nephews that made up the Boley and Patton families. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Larry, daughter Billie Sue Byrns Castleberry, and grandson Joshua Ensminger.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
