Laura May (Luark) Boyer

Memorial services for Laura May (Luark) Boyer, formerly of Montesano, will be held at the Montesano United Methodist Church on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at 2 p.m. She died peacefully in her sleep in Olympia on Dec. 9, 2017.

Laura was born March 13, 1928, to Erwin and Bessie Luark in a log cabin built by her pioneering grandparents in Melbourne. In 1947 she married Jack Boyer of Oak Harbor. Laura was a piano teacher and very active in the local and state Music Teachers Association. In her fifties she returned to school to earn her BA in music. She was a long-time Girl Scout leader and sewing group member and, at various times, a member of the Mountaineers, the Olympians, Great Books Club, juvenile court advocates, and the church choir and outreach committee. She enjoyed teaching and playing the piano, reading, hiking and gardening.

Laura is survived by two sons, Terry and Carol of Montesano and Bruce of Bellingham; two daughters, Linda Boyer and Peter Rushton of Olympia and Beth & Gib Peterson of East Hoquiam; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, James of Lynnwood; and one sister, Sally Adams of Arlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and three brothers, Gerald of Cosmopolis, and Russell and David of Montesano.

Remembrances may be donated to the Grays Harbor Music Teachers Association.
