Trout stocking to take place this month in East County

Three lakes will get about 1,000 fish total, Department of Fish and Wildlife says.

Three lakes in East County started getting new infusions of fish, thanks to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Lake Sylvia, and Inez and Bowers lakes were to get 1,000 total rainbow trout sometime after Oct. 14. The fish came from Eells Springs hatchery in Mason County, the state Department of Fish and Wildlife District 17 Fisheries Biologist Curt Holt said. The exact date for planting the fish was not know earlier this month.

Lake Sylvia will get 500 rainbow. Inez and Bowers, known locally as Vance Creek ponds No. 1 and 2, will get 250 rainbow each. The fish average “nearly a pound a piece,” Holt said in an email.

He also mentioned recent restocking efforts in Pacific County. Cases Pond got 1,007 rainbow on Sept. 25. On Sept. 17, Black Lake (1,788 rainbow), Snag Lake (300 rainbow) and Western Lake (300 rainbow) also were restocked in Pacific County.
