Department of Fish and Wildlife Director Jim Unsworth has sent a proposal to Governor Jay Inslee that asks the 2017 Legislature to consider substantial increases in recreational fishing and hunting licenses. Unsworth said rising management costs have left no alternative to raising the cost of licenses if hunters, like those targeting blacktail deer, and anglers want to maintain and grow hunting and fishing opportunities in the coming years. Firefighters from District 5 and the Elma Fire Department responding to reports of a residential structure fire at the end of the 200 block of Newman Middle Branch Road in Satsop arrived to find the home fully engulfed. The resident of the home and her pets were able to escape. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
