McCleary updated Critical Areas Ordinance

Changes include inceases to buffer zones around wetlands.

The McCleary Council will hold a workshop meeting at 6:30 tonight, June 20, at City Hall to discuss the impacts of updating the city’s Critical Areas Ordinance.

Todd Baun, the director of the city’s Public Works Department, said the city hasn’t updated its CAO since 2004.

The state Department of Ecology has recommended guidelines for wetland buffers that the city likely will have to abide by, Baun said.

In many cases, these recommended buffers have increased significantly since the McCleary CAO was last updated.

Residents of McCleary interested in the changes of the buffer zones are encouraged to attend today’s workshop.

The City Council could adopt the new Critical Areas Ordinance at its next meeting, which is July 10.
