Fourth monument block added in time for Veterans Day

The Marion J. “Bogey” Bogdanovich Veterans Honor Wall got a new addition. A fourth marble monument was placed today Oct. 31 at Fleet Park.

Beverly Hall, of Montesano who leads the group organizing the wall, says the monument is meant to display the names of veterans of military service who lived within the Montesano School District boundaries at some point.

“We just added six names about two months ago,” Hall said as a crew from the city of Montesano and Aberdeen Cemetery Association maneuvered the slab into place. Aberdeen Cemetery Association, often called Fern Hill Cemetery, does the engraving and ordering of the marble blocks.

For a $60 engraving fee, anybody who meets the requirements can have their names engraved on a marble block.

Hall said that forms for veterans to have their names added to the wall will soon will be available at area businesses.

Visitors to the wall might notice that an inscription reads “Veterans Memorial.” The name was changed since the first block was installed in 2012 to reflect that being deceased is not a requirement for having one’s name added to the wall.
