During the month of December at Simpson Elementary we have lots of fun activities going on. Starting at the beginning of the month we have Food Bowl activities taking place, raising funds and food for area food banks. These activities are always a highlight of student’s years, and they make great memories.

Every month there is a Word of the Month, this month’s was “responsibility.” Throughout the month, staff members watch for students who show responsibility. Then our school has an assembly where awards are handed out.

In third grade, Alex Bale, Charlee Fairbairn, Charlotte Kupka, Emma Hall and London Towle received awards. In fourth grade, Aurora Gourdin, Addison Rux, Hunter Downs, Makenna Blancas and Max Peterson were recognized. Fifth-graders Emily Wills, Jasmin Flores, Kendall Vincent, Maddi Kaivo-Houlton and Riley Rosetta received awards. Ava Shrader, Audree Dohrman, Brook Jones, Peytyn Chaufly and Madelyn Williamson are the sixth-graders who received awards.

After the WOTM assembly, Food Bowl starts. To raise money at Simpson, we have a week called “Spirit Week.” Each day has a category to dress up as/in. To participate, students have to bring in a dollar or 2 cans of food.

For Monday we had Pajama Day, everyone loved staying cozy and warm. Tuesday was Crazy Hair Day, everyone had fun laughing at all the crazy hair styles. On Wednesday, everyone had a great time showing off their sports gear for Sports Day. Then on Thursday, everyone turned on their Christmas mood and wore ugly sweaters for Ugly Christmas Sweater Day. Finally, on Friday, everyone wore bulldog gear for Bulldog Spirit Day.

One of the best activities we had was Pie in the Face. In the mornings, students had the opportunity to stop by a table in the hall and buy tickets. On the table were buckets for most teachers. With the tickets they bought they would place them into any bucket of their choice. At the end of the 2 weeks, the top 5 teachers with the most tickets would get a pie in the face at an assembly. All of the money raised would also go toward Food Bowl. Students love to participate in this fundraiser because it is for a good cause and it is very fun.

Overall, December is such a fun and memorable time for many. Students love the short amount of time before Christmas having a blast. December at Simpson Elementary is full of great times!
