Mushroom pic-ing is speaker’s career

The Southwest Washington Mycological Society welcomes Taylor Lockwood, an internationally renowned photographer of mushrooms and other fungi. Lockwood, who grew up near Seattle, began using sophisticated photography equipment in 1984 in Mendocino, California, to take pictures of mushroom. Praise for his work to promote the beauty of mushrooms has gained him acclaim with mycologists, mushroom enthusiasts, photography critics and nature lovers from around the world.

Lockwood will speak during a free event at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at the Transalta Commons (TAC), Room 105 C, Centralia College (at the intersection of West Pear Street and South Washington Street in Centralia).

“Lockwood has built his image catalog through many years of world travel. In addition to extensive travel in the U.S., his photographic expeditions have included Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Madagascar, Thailand, Tibet, China, Canada, Zimbabwe and Indonesia,” said Linda S. Anderson of the Southwest Washington Mycological Society. “His work has appeared in the National Geographic magazine, the New York Times, the Washington Post and many other publications. His photo of a bioluminescent mushroom was the first mushroom photo to ever be put onto a United States postage stamp. Lockwood is a pioneer in the discovery and appreciation of mushrooms and other fungi.”
