Commissioner Meldrum Resigns from Hospital Board After 10 Years of Service

After eight years on the Grays Harbor County Public Hospital District No. 1 Board of Commissioners, Brent Meldrum, the board secretary, is stepping down.

His last day as commissioner will be May 29.

“I wish to express my thanks for the opportunity to serve as a commissioner for Summit Pacific Medical Center,” Meldrum’s resignation letter reads. The letter was submitted at the Feb. 28 meeting of the board. “It is a fulfilling and exciting experience being part of this dynamic organization. I know the legacy of Summit Pacific will continue and that it will continue to enhance wellness for the citizens of East County and Grays Harbor County.”

He has had an active role with the hospital district for 10 years, officials said. He spent five years as the board chairman and three years as secretary.

“Brent has been an asset to our organization for many years and the organization has celebrated many noteworthy accomplishments during his time of service,” Summit Pacific CEO Josh Martin said in a release. “He has been a staple for this organization, and for me when stepping in as CEO. Though his service will be missed, he has helped build a strong foundation that will continue to serve the district for years to come.”

“Meldrum was actively engaged in implementing the plan for building the new hospital in Elma,” the release states.

Meldrum will remain in his position as owner and CEO of Coastal Transport LLC, a medical transportation company. He also will serve on the Summit Pacific Medical Foundation Board of Directors. The Board of Commissioners is expected to name a replacement for Meldrum at its May 29 meeting. The appointee will serve on the board through the completion of the term, Dec. 31, 2021.

People interested in filling the vacancy can submit a letter of interest through the end of March. The successful applicant must have their primary residence in the hospital district.

Letters of interest may be submitted in person at Summit Pacific Medical Center’s Administrative Office or by email to joris@sp-mc.org. For more information on the position, contact Jori Stott at 360-346-2280 or joris@sp-mc.org.
