City to save money on phones

City will save about $6,000 per year on phone bill after opting for new contract with different provider.

The Montesano City Council decided to cut the cable Tuesday, Aug. 14.

The seven-member Council voted unanimously to cease doing business with Comcast for its office telephone systems and will contract with Mitel Phone Systems. The move will save about $6,000 per year.

The Mitel quote for a three-year contract came back about half of what the city was paying to Comcast, city Chief Financial Officer Doug Streeter said.

No phone numbers will change. The city has had problems with phones breaking.

Streeter expects new phones to be part of the deal, which should be complete by Oct. 1
