Last week, KOMO News reported that charges were dropped against Charles Emery, the 82-year-old man accused of harboring child pornography and graphic manifestos of child abuse and murder dating back decades.
KOMO reported that the charges were dismissed because Emery “lacks the capacity to understand the proceedings and assist in his own defense.”
Emery was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year.
He and his two brothers both lived in the same home in Seattle until recently. When Emery was moved into an assisted living facility, a family member found a large amount of child pornography, children’s clothes, toys and movies.
A manifesto depicting the rape and murder of children was found buried in the backyard.
The two other brothers face charges. One has plead not guilty, and the other is reported to be in intensive care at Harborview Medical Center, according to the KOMO report.
The brothers also owned a home in Shelton. Charles Emery had lived there in the recent past. That home has been scoured by law enforcement.
The Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office is following the investigation in search of any possible connection to the disappeared of Lindsay Baum. Baum disappeared in 2009 while walking home from a friend’s house in McCleary.
Law enforcement also is looking for any connection to the murder of Tracy West of Shelton in 1988.
