Blue Slough Road woes could be long lasting

Blue Slough Road has been closed indefinitely due to problems with the road’s structural integrity, according to the county. The road runs perpendicular to portions of state routes 101 and 107 and is used as an alternative route for those traveling between Montesano and Cosmopolis.

Jim Celich, a road supervisor with Grays Harbor County, explained Blue Slough Road was first closed on Nov. 18 before being reopened on Nov. 20, but was then closed indefinitely on Nov. 22.

The road itself is “slipping,” Celich said, due to the effect of heavy rainfall on the underlying soil. Celich said the road has had a tendency towards such movement problems every winter but has been repaired in the past with hot mixed asphalt.

“At this time there is no date that it will be opened,” Celich said.
