Area veterans honored for service

Three veterans received medals and a fourth was recognized for his longevity.

Four area veterans were honored for their service Tuesday, Aug. 21, at the Montesano Veterans of Foreign Wars hall.

Herb Beck, of Montesano, and Maurice Fox and Lloyd Jorgensen, both of Aberdeen, received Ambassador For Peace medals for their service during the Korean War and Grant Edwards, of Aberdeen, was recognized for his 60 years of membership at the post.

“This commemorative medal is an expression of appreciation from the Korean government to American service men and women who served in the Korean War,” according to the state Department of Veterans Affairs website.

At 99 years old, Edwards is believed to be the oldest veteran in Grays Harbor County. He served in World War II and the Korean War.
