Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia (FOSLS) want you to join them on two First Day Hikes next year.
The first hike begins at 10 a.m. Jan. 1 at Schafer State Park, 1365 W. Schafer Park Road, in Elma. Park aide Kody Tyron will take people on an about 2-mile route through the park. To attend, meet at the big pavilion in the day use area of the park. Maps and more information about Schafer are available at parks.state.wa.us/580/Schafer.
“Ranger Nick” will lead the Lake Sylvia State Park hike, which begins at 1 p.m. Jan. 1 in the kitchen area of the park at 1812 N. Lake Sylvia Road in Montesano. The hike is expected to be about 2 miles. A FOSLS volunteer will lead a more leisurely stroll through the park for people looking for a slower pace. The hikes will take place regardless of weather, appropriate dress is encouraged.
“Well mannered dogs on a short lease are welcome, but no bikes please,” a release from FOSLS states.
FOSLS will provide hot drinks and cookies after the hikes.
Jan. 1 is a free day at Washington State Parks. No Discover Pass is needed to visit the parks.
