Aberdeen teacher charged with dealing child porn

Teacher lived in Elma.

A 31-year-old Aberdeen teacher is in jail for allegedly dealing child pornography, the Elma Police Department reported on Sept. 2.

Police arrested the teacher, and he was booked into jail on suspicion of dealing child pornography and possessing child pornography.

According to a press release from the Elma Police Department, officers executed a search warrant Tuesday at the teacher’s home in the 600 block of North Second Street in Elma after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, police said.

Police arrested the teacher Friday, and he was booked into jail on suspicion of dealing child pornography and possessing child pornography.

Officers seized multiple computers and hard drives at the home, the press release stated.

The Grays Harbor Newspaper Group reported last week that Jeffrey Daniel Gross, age 31, was booked into the Grays Harbor County Jail at 12:30 p.m. Friday. A person named Jeffrey Gross was listed as a science teacher at Aberdeen High School on the school’s staff directory on Friday, Sept. 2, but by the following Tuesday, the name had been removed from the school’s directory.

A press release from Aberdeen School District Superintendent Tom Opstad did not reveal the name of the teacher.

According to Opstad, the teacher that was charged had been on administrative leave since Aug. 31, the day after the school district was notified by the Elma Police Department that the employee was under investigation.

“The district has confirmed that prior to hiring the teacher, all required criminal background checks had been performed, and the teacher’s references were verified,” Opstad wrote. “In light of the open police investigation, the district cannot provide any further comment but wants the school community to know that student safety is always the primary concern of our district.”

During an arraignment on Tuesday, Sept. 6, Gross plead not guilty to all charges.
