Monte equestrian team wins big

team and individuals show well

The Montesano High School equestrian team co-op team earned the top spot for the Washington Association of High School Equestrian Teams (WAHSET) District 4 Medium School Championship, as well as several other placings in individual and team events.

The MHSET Co-Op 2017-2018 team is led by head coach Denise Schupbach and coaches Jamie Peterson and Alexis Schupbach. Seniors are Emily Endsley, Shyla Flodstrom, Madison Schupbach and Hallie Stubb. Underclassmen are Trinity Anderson, Addisyn Gage, Rylee Jones, Kate Holmes, Jessie Olson, Ashlyn Peterson, Sidney Schrader, Gabbie Smiley and Hannah Tupper. Heather Brix is the Parent Advisor for this season.

The meets are held at the Tacoma Unit in Spanaway and last three days each. Riders can participate in up to five individual events and unlimited team events with points accumulating toward state championship participation which will be held May 17-20 in Moses Lake.

Events include performance classes, western pleasure, gaming and cattle event. Team events include birangle, working pairs, in-hand obstacle relay and drill.

Final season placings are:

Barrels: Rylee Jones – second (Silver Medal); Sidney Schrader – third (Bronze Medal).

Canadian Flags: Third (Bronze Medal) – Madison Schupbach, Ashlyn Peterson, Hallie Stubb and Shyla Flodstrom.

In-Hand Trail: Madison Schupbach – first Alternate.

Keyhole: Sidney Schrader – first (Gold Medal); Jessie Olson – first alternate.

Polebending: Rylee Jones – State Qualifier; Sidney Schrader – first alternate.

Team Sorting: Sidney Schrader and Rylee Jones – first alternate.

Two Man Birangle: Hallie Stubb and Ashlyn Peterson, state qualifiers
