Master Gardeners workshop on March 4

Master Gardeners of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties offer free “Planting 101” workshop

Digging into the new year, the WSU Master Gardeners of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties are offering another series of free “First Saturday” workshops, beginning 10 a.m. to noon on March 4.

The workshop is for gardening skills improvement.

The first workshop is “Planting 101,” designed to spring attendees into planting. The workshop will be held at the WSU Extension office at the Grays Harbor County Fairgrounds in Elma.

WSU-certified Master Gardeners who present the workshop allow time for questions from participants. Topics are planned to cover basic spring gardening necessities: proper site selection and preparation, considering the local climate (last average frost) and planting zones.

Master Gardeners will guide participants through the decoding of seed catalogues and seed packets. The workshop will teach which plants and plant families are best suited for spring production, including vegetable and herbs, ornamentals and annual flowers.

Seed packets of cool-season vegetable seeds will go home with participants as well as a pot or two of seeds planted during the class. If attending, bring gardening gloves and a bag to carry seed starts home.

The workshop is free and no preregistration is required. For questions, email Cindy Burton at cindyburton@comcast.net.
