Ten students lead the pack for Elma’s 2017 graduating class

The Top 10 students for Elma High School’s Class of 2017 are:

Rebecca V. Heelan

City of residence: Elma

Parents: Bill and Sonja Heelan of Elma.

Hobbies: Band, Future Business Leaders of America, Honor Society and Dance team.

Scholarships: Grays Harbor Community Foundation.

Future plans: Will attend South Puget Sound Community College to study nursing after which Rebecca will tranfer to a four year college for her bachelor’s degree.

McKenzie M. Neary

City of residence: Elma

Parents: Mark and Michelle Neary of Elma.

Hobbies: Honor Society Vice President, Class of 2017 Treasurer, Leadership, Yearbook, School Board Representative, Fall Dance/Drill team and basketball.

Scholarships: Burger King Scholarship, Dr. Donald and Edna Wheaton Family Scholarship, Washington State University scholarship and Grays Harbor Mounted Posse scholarship.

Future plans: Will attend Washington State University to study nursing and medicine.

Catherine (Katie) I. Paape

City of residence: McCleary

Parents: Scott and Debbie Paape

Hobbies: Phi Theta Kappa at South Puget Sound Community College

Future plans: Will get a full time job at a kidney dialysis center to prepare her for nursing school at Pacific Lutheran University, Seattle Pacific University or Seattle University.

Donovan C. Knutson

City of residence: Satsop

Parents: Gene and Kellie Knutson of Satsop.

Hobbies: Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, Running Start and is receiving an associates degree in science from Grays Harbor College.

Scholarships: Dr. Donald Arima Scholarship, Satsop Community Foundation Scholarship.

Future plans: Will attend the University of Washington to study software development.

Spencer T. Keating

City of residence: Elma

Parents: Mark and Michelle Keating of Elma.

Hobbies: Anything related to cars.

Future plans: Currently employed at UPS and will remain there while pursuing a chemical engineering degree at Grays Harbor College.

Peyton M. Elliott

City of residence: Elma

Parents: Roger and Kimberly Elliott of Elma.

Hobbies: Associated Student Body, Power lifting and Yearbook, soccer, basketball and fastpitch.

Scholarships: Burger King Scholarship, Grays Harbor Mounted Posse Scholarship.

Future plans: Will attend Clackamas Community College to play fastpitch and study nursing.

Linda M. Ramirez

City of residence: Elma

Parents: Benito Ramirez and Clara Lopez both of Elma.

Scholarships: Governors’ Scholarship, Washington Opportunity Scholarship, Education and Training Voucher, Passport to College Scholarship, College Assistance Migrant Program Scholarship and nsoro scholarship.

Future plans: Will attend the University of Washington to study dentistry.

Victoria T. Aukland

City of residence: Elma

Parents: Maurrie and Michael Aukland of Elma.

Hobbies: Classical ballet and modern dance.

Scholarships: University of Washington Undergraduate Grant, Grays Harbor Community Foundation Scholarship, Ballet Northwest Scholarship, Western Washington University Scholarship and World Scholars Grays Harbor College Scholarship.

Future plans: Will attend the University of Washington to study dance and social work.

Antonio Lopez-Garcia

City of residence: Elma

Parents: Antonio Lopez Flores and Beatriz Garcia Sanchez both of Elma.

Hobbies: Food Bowl, blood drive and soccer.

Scholarships: Quentin and Phyllis Boyer Memorial Scholarship and Washington State Opportunity Scholarship.

Future plans: Will attend Washington State University after going on a senior trip to Mexico.

Kendal M. Harner

City of residence: Montesano

Parents: Dan Harner of Hoquiam and Lisa Harner of Montesano.

Scholarships: The Grange Scholarship and the Washinton State Opportunity Scholarship.

Future plans: Will attend Grays Harbor College.
