OCCU recognized for fraud prevention

OCCU wins “Best in Class” award

Member Access Pacific recently announced that Our Community Credit Union (OCCU) won the VISA Debit Processing Service (DPS) Client Achievement Award for lowest debit fraud rate.

The “Best in Class” award is in recognition of OCCU achieving the lowest fraud rate among all U.S. debit card issuing banks and credit unions using the VISA DPS platform during 2016.

“Our OCCU VISA team works diligently to protect our member’s accounts daily,” VP of operations Kari Waylett said. “Fraud is an ever-changing landscape…. Card fraud occurs at merchant point of sale, ATM skimming, online orders, etc. For our team to stay on top of the immense amount of information required to combat fraud, it requires a passion and a commitment that is hard to come by.”

“A key component to our success lies in managing our plastics in-house,” Waylett added. “This award should reassure OCCU VISA cardholders that regardless of size or location, they are protected by one of the best credit unions in the U.S. I am extremely proud of the work our OCCU VISA team provides to our membership and am honored to receive such a reputable award on behalf of OCCU.”

OCCU has 27,000 members, has $359 million in assets and operates branches in Montesano, Elma, McCleary, Shelton, Union and on Vashon Island. Plans to open an eighth full-service branch will take place in Steamboat Square, in Thurston County later in the fall.
