Simpson Says
This year is Mr. Cady’s first year as principal at Simpson. He has made some fun changes. He has changed the word of the month assemblies by adding a most-improved student award from each class. Each month a different class gets awarded a giant, stuffed bulldog for following the Bulldog Be’s (be safe, be respectul, be responsible).
This isn’t all — he has more changes for Simpson School to come. Some ideas he’s thinking of are adding more STEM (science, technology, engineering, math), robotics and science kits.
To give you a little history on Mr. Cady: Mr. Cady has been involved with teaching for 13 years. He loves motorcycles, golf, the outdoors, watching the Seahawks and playing with his girls. Welcome to Simpson, Mr. Cady.
More exciting news: Our 2017 Associated Student Body (ASB) officers have been announced for the first semester. They are president Sophia Cox, vice president Addison Potts, secretary Ruby Jones, treasurer Hudson Royer, sergeant at arms Samantha Schweppe, and member at large Emily Kuntz. Congrats Officers. Our first two ASB meetings have been spent talking about spirit week and food bowl. Please read next month for more details.
Speaking of the word of the month assemblies, the month of October’s word was “respect.” Respect means to admire someone or something by their abilities, qualities or achievements. One student from each class gets awarded student of the month for exemplifying the word respect. The class for October for following the Bulldog Be’s was Mrs. Plato’s fourth-grade class. Keep up the good work.
Our word of the month for November is “courage.” One student from each classroom who most exemplifies this character trait will be awarded recognition at this month’s word of the month assembly.
Many fun school events have happened during the months of September through November.
Storybook dress up was on Halloween. Students were allowed to dress up as their favorite storybook character. To participate each student brought in a dollar or a gently used book to donate to the birthday book rack in Simpson Library. The birthday book rack is used on your birthday. Students can choose a book any day on the month of their birthday to take home.
Another special event is the Veterans Day assembly. This year fifth-grade students sang and gave presentations about the importance of Veterans Day. There was also a performance by the Montesano Junior/Senior High School choir. Veterans Day is a federal holiday held on the anniversary of World War 1 to honor U.S. veterans of all wars.
Simpson is proud to celebrate this day and to honor our veterans.
Addison Potts is a fifth-grader in Ms. Egger’s class at Simpson School.
