Clint Bryson was appointed to the Montesano City Council.
Bryson fills a vacancy left by the February resignation of former councilman Chris Hutchings.
Bryson is a lifelong resident of Montesano and graduated from Montesano High School in 1990. He’s been an electrician for 26 years and currently is a business representative for IBW Local 76.
“I looked at a lot of different places to live but I could not find a place I wanted to be other than Montesano,” Bryson told the council during the May 9 meeting. “When I became aware of the council position opening up, I decided it was time for me to get involved…”
Bryson identified the wastewater treatment plant as the most pressing issue facing the city. Currently, the Wynoochee River is eroding the bank and could either breach the plant or erode the bank further to the north and create an island out of the treatment plant.
“We have to protect the assets that we have before we spend any money on anything else,” Byson said. “I know there’s a plan in place to do that and that was brought up during the last meeting.”
He also noted that streets are a concern to citizens in Montesano.
“We need to work on our core assets while continuing to imporve ballfields, parks and quality of life issues,” Bryson said.
He said “community involvement” had been his greatest experience of growing up in Montesano.
The council held an executive session before Councilman Ian Cope made a motion to appoint Bryson to the vacancy. Bryson unanimously was appointed.
A total of four applicants applied.
