Grays Harbor Veterinary Services invited the public to come see its new facility at an open house on Friday, Feb. 24.
The new facility, located at 16 Old Beacon Road next to the old building, “has been a long time coming,” hospital manager Kamma Maldonado said.
“The project from concept to completion took a lot of time. Everyone is very excited to share it with the public. After all, it’s really the community’s building, because it’s designed to serve them,” Maldonado said.
Individuals who attended the open house were given the opportunity to walk through the new facility to see what it will offer. Audrey Germanis, District Manager for Royal Canin, was there to educate the public on how nutrition can contribute to the health of pets.
The facility, twice the size of the old clinic, will allow the veterinary hospital to serve the community in new ways.
“Our old facility was basically a one-doctor practice with one treatment table,” Maldonado explained. “The new facility gives space for two full-time and one part-time doctor as well as three exam rooms and a consult therapy room.”
More available veterinarians means a smoother process in getting animals in to see the vet. However, the comfort of the new facility doesn’t stop there.
“The floors of the kennels are actually heated,” Maldonado said. “We’re not just concerned about the comfort and convenience of pet owners, but of the pets themselves.”
The convenience of the technologically advanced facility spans to those who work there as well, as the facility is equipped with a central HVAC system that lessens the burden brought on by pet hair.
“We’re all super excited,” Maldonado said.
With the majority of services relocating to the new facility, the old building will still be put to use since being outfitted as the home for Grays Harbor Veterinary Services online store, The Famous Shamus Pet Supplies.
