Bulldog boys defeat Castle Rock, Rochester

L.J. Valley scored 15 points and Seth Dierkop attained a double-double as Montesano topped Castle Rock, 65-54, in a non-league game Friday, Dec. 9, at Castle Rock.

The 6-1 Dierkop had 13 points and 10 rebounds, while teammate Trevor Ridgway also chipped in with 13 points.

The Bulldogs (3-1) also received strong reserve play from freshmen Sam Winter and Tanner Nicklas. Winter tallied 10 points. Nicklas, four-of-five from the field, contributed nine points, six rebounds and three assists.

Up 24-21 at the half, the Bulldogs pulled away with a 22-point third quarter.

“We did a good job inside and rebounding,” Monte coach Doug Galloway said.

Bulldogs 60, Warriors 36

First-half pressure, plus a boost from the bench, allowed Montesano to take control of this non-league contest with Rochester on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

The Bulldogs rolled out to a 12-2 first-quarter score on the strength of their defense. Off the bench,Winter led all scorers with 13 points. Nicklas, Dierkop and Nick Chapman each pulled down eight rebounds.

“I was pleased with the way the kids came out,” Galloway said. “They played with a lot of passion. Our pressure hurt them and we were able to convert the chances at the other end.”

Galloway cited Winter and Shaydon Farmer for their work off the bench.

The Bulldogs will next venture into Oregon to compete in the Seaside Invitational beginning Thursday. They’ll open against Newport, Ore., at 2:30 p.m.
