Bulldogs have outscored opponents 14-2 in four games this season

Montesano 5, WF West 1

The Bulldogs remained undefeated on the season with a 5-1 victory over WF West on Saturday at Montesano High School.

Monte junior Anna Ayres, who had two goals in the game, opened the scoring with a goal in the 10th minute.

It was all Montesano from there, as the Bulldogs got goals from Zoee Lisherness (26th minute), Brooke Streeter (41st minute), Elleah Jones (60th minute) and Ayres (76th minute) to go up 5-0 before a late goal dashed the Bulldogs’ shutout chances.

In its four wins this season, the Bulldogs have dominated, outscoring their opponents 14-2.

“We have five girls on the team that can really do damage and a really good defense,” Monte head coach Fidel Sanchez said.

BOYS PREP GOLF

Montesano edges Elma, Kalama

The Montesano High School boys golf team benefited from sub-40 rounds from Payson Parker and Ben Royer to win a three-team match over Elma and Kalama on Thursday at Oaksridge Golf Course.

Monte (3-0 overall) won with a team score of 166. Elma placed second with a 185 while Kalama was third with a score of 208.

Parker shot the low round for the match with a 38, which was just one shot better than Royer’s 39. Parker Plato (44) and Nate Johnson (45) rounded out Monte’s top-four golfers on the day.

Elma was led by Zeke Mueller’s 43 and Kilian Acuff’s 45. Jared Moline (48) and Seth Lafontaine (49) also placed in the Eagles’ top four.

Aberdeen competes at Capital Invite

The Aberdeen High School cross country team opened the season when it competed at the Capital Invite Wednesday in Olympia.

The Capital Invite, which has runners racing against competitors in the same class (freshman versus freshman, sophomores versus sophomores, etc.), featured hundreds of runners from 29 different high schools.

The top finisher for the Bobcats was Gary Sherman, who placed fifth out of 132 runners in the boys freshman race with a time of 13 minutes, 33 seconds over the 2.23-mile course.

Fellow freshman teammate Joel Nelson placed 29th with a time of 14:33.

Mayri Orellana and Skyler Taylor each placed in the top 30 in the girls sophomore race. Orellana was 25th with a time of 17:37 while Taylor placed 29th, crossing the finish line at 17:49.

In the junior boys’ race, Aberdeen’s Jordan McKinney placed 31st with a mark of 13:19.

“It was a great invite to start the year and to see where the kids are at before we start our league meets,” Aberdeen head coach April Meissner said.

Ocosta hosts invitational

Ocosta High School sophomore Natalie Cain posted a time of 21:36 to win the girls varsity race at the Ocosta Invitational cross country meet on Saturday in Westport.

Cain finished 19 seconds ahead of Forks’ Karen Ensastegui. Fellow Wildcat Kjirstin Hopfer placed third with a time of 22:22.

North Beach’s Kaytlynn Corey placed fifth with a time of 23:01 followed by teammate Skyler Langston in sixth place with a time of 23:32.

In the boys varsity race, Ocosta’s Dylan Todd ran a 17:42 to place second behind Onalaska’s Zachary Wright, who won with a time of 16:09.

Wildcats runners Alex Bailey (17:54) and Daniel Quinby (18:09) place fourth and seventh, respectively.

Elma’s Tyler Bristow was the top runner for the Eagles in the race, placing 11th with a time of 18:27.
