Bulldogs beat Warriors, Rockets to remain flawless

The lady Bulldogs won a pair of games last week to keep an unbeaten streak going strong.

Bulldogs 72, Rockets 24

Scoring at least 20 points in each of the first three quarters, Montesano’s girls blew out Castle Rock to remain unbeaten on Dec. 8 at Bo Griffith Memorial Gym.

Scoring came from all over the place for the Bulldogs (5-0), but it was Zoee Lisherness who led the team with 13 points.

Monte head coach Julie Graves liked the offense but was really impressed with the defense.

“We forced 29 turnovers and the helped is get into our transition game and push the pace,” she said.

Lisherness and Samantha Stanfield were key to the team’s ball movement and had four assists each.

Zoe Hutchings also played well and came away with eight rebounds.

Monte junior varsity also won and was led by Mayah Gallinger who had 14 points.

Bulldogs 80, Warriors 35

Five players scored at least eight points as Montesano easily remained unbeaten.

Hutchings contributed 16 points and seven rebounds, while Lisherness added 14 points and six boards for the Bulldogs (4-0). Stanfield also yanked down seven rebounds.

Down 9-8 in the early going, the Bulldogs came out of a timeout with a 9-0 run triggered by Stanfield’s 3-point basket. Montesano led 47-25 at the half and limited Rochester to 10 second-half points.

“After a slow start, we really played hard for the rest of the game,” Graves said. “We really buckled down and played great defense in the second half and we shared the ball well on offense.”

Lisherness handed out six assists and Glory Grubb five. Katie Granstrom swiped five steals and Hannah Hatcher four for Montesano.
