Monte boys take Hoquiam meet; Elma finishes second

Logan Clements helps lead Monte to team victory

Montesano’s Logan Clements ran under 17 minutes to help lead the Bulldogs to a team victory and win the individual title in an Evergreen 1A League meet at Hoquiam High School on Thursday, Sept. 29.

Clements finished the course in personal record time of 16:56.09 to pace the Bulldogs. Montesano had four boys finish in the top 10 to take the meet title with 40 points. Elma finished second with 54 points, followed closely by Hoquiam with 56.

Forks’ Marissa Bailey won the girls half of the meet with a time of 20:52.47 to pace the Spartans to a team title with 21 points. Hoquiam came in second with 34 points.

Montesano’s Connor Parkinson finished third on the boys side, with Blaine Ross taking fourth and Kyle Cox taking ninth.

“The kids were surprised they ran so fast, but they’ve put in the work,” Montesano coach James Edwards said. “I was happy with the performances.”

Hoquiam’s Carlos Juarez ran a career best time of 18:32.60 to take fifth.

“The majority of our team PRd today,” Hoquiam coach Carly Giles said. “They have been working so hard in practice, so to see them PR is awesome. The weather was perfect and it was just a nice day to have a meet.”

The Eagles were paced by a time of 18:35.84 by Dylan Volz.

On the girls side, Hoquiam’s Savannah Lutz ran the fast time for the Grizzlies. The freshman ran a time of 24:16.15 to place third with teammate Payton Parshall on her heels to finish fourth with a time of 24:22.58.

Montesano’s Elizabeth Hunley posted the top time for the Bulldogs with a 26:42.32.
