ELMA — Tatium Brumfield ran for an even 200 yards and one touchdown as Elma thumped Tenino, 39-6, in an Evergreen 1A League football game on Oct. 13 at Davis Field.

The Eagles (1-1, 3-4) dominated on both sides of the ball. With quarterback Cody Vollan passing for 130 yards, Elma racked up 425 yards of total offense.

Eagles coach Ron Clark, however, saved his greatest accolades for his defense.

“The defense was pretty impressive tonight,” Clark said. “A lot of tackles for losses and a lot of sacks. Our D line had a good game.”

The Eagles led by the unusual score of 5-0 after one quarter. Alejandro Hernandez opened the scoring with a 30-yard field goal and the Eagles blocked a punt out of the end zone for a safety.

Elma then broke it open with a 20-point second quarter. Brumfield ran 7 yards for a touchdown, Vollan completed a 27-yard TD pass to Josiah Wyeth-Jones and and Vollan scrambled into the end zone from 15 yards out to give the Eagles a 25-0 halftime lead.

Vollan and Wyeth-Jones hooked up again on a 45-yard scoring strike in the third quarter.

Brody Rustemeyer ran 20 yards for Elma’s final touchdown.

In addition to his ball-carrying exploits, Brumfield was cited for outstanding defense. Vollan and Niall Baxter also drew Coach Clark’s praise.

The Eagles travel to Forks Friday for a contest critical to their postseason hopes.
