Bulldogs sweep Forks in volleyball action

The win completed an unbeaten regular season for the Bulldogs (8-0, 14-0).

For Senior Night, Montesano started slow and warmed up for a sweep of visiting Forks 25-23, 25-15, 25-13 in Evergreen 1A League play at Bo Griffith Gym on Oct. 25.

The win completed an unbeaten regular season for the Bulldogs (8-0, 14-0).

All seven Montesano seniors — Hannah Manley, Jaden Schoch, Shayla Floch, Hailee Dierks, Jordan Spradlin, Josie Talley and Josie Toyra — played in the match and were cited by Montesano head coach Debbie Gibson for their contributions.

“It is a great group to coach and they will be missed,” Gibson said. “We were a little emotional to start the first set. We found our rhythm and slowly got into our game.”

Spradlin led all hitters with 21 kills and Floch added 17 kills for the league champions, who’ll return to action next Wednesday at home in the district tournament.

Talley brought up 15 digs and was one of three, along with Manley and Toyra, with 100 percent serving. Junior Hannah Hatcher dished out 39 assists.

Montesano won the junior varsity match, 25-14, 25-20. In the C Squad match, Montesano knocked off Tenino 25-12, 25-23.

Adna Invite

Perennial Class 2B power Toutle Lake outlasted Montesano, 21-25, 25-12, 15-9, in the title match to win the Adna Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 22.

The Bulldogs went 6-1 in one-set pool play matches — beating Onalaska, Willapa Valley, Toutle Lake, Adna, Morton-White Pass and South Bend and losing to Napavine — to earn the top-seeded berth in the semifinals. They downed Adna, 25-11, 25-23, to advance to the championship match.

After a strong start against Toutle Lake, the Bulldogs fell victim to erratic passing and, as Gibson put it, “kind of got outplayed defensively.”
