Richard Leland David Hulbert of Elma, Wash. passed away at Tacoma General Hospital on July 25, 2016. He was 62.

Richard was born May 1, 1954 to Leonard and Dorothy (Klahn) Hulbert in Aberdeen, Wash. and was raised in Copalis Beach. At age 14 Richard moved to Elma, Wash. where he graduated high school and enlisted in the United States Navy; serving a tour in Vietnam and transferring to the Naval Reserve. He then attended Grays Harbor Community College.

On April 26, 1986 Richard married Mary (Cristelli) Hulbert and had recently celebrated 30 years of marriage. With her by his side, Richard enjoyed fishing, yardwork, clam digging and spending time with family.

Richard was employed for 42 years at White Star Mill in Elma, Wash. He went on to work for many other employers before his current position at Murphy Company.

Richard is survived by his wife Mary Hulbert of Elma; his children Ben Hulbert of Federal Way, Wash. and Tony (Kim) Blakely of Montesano; sister Roxanna Jackson of Moclips, Wash.; and brothers James (Sally) Hatton of Moclips, Wash.; Daniel Hatton of Portland, Ore. and Steve Hulbert of Mississipi; along with six grandchildren: Tyler, Caden, Kaeson, Darra, Georgeanna (Gigi), and Anna; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Sara; and brothers Eugene (Phyllis) Shaugnessy, Neal (Dorothy) Shaughnessy and Ben Hatton.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 at Elma Masonic Cemetery. A Celebration of Richard’s Life will follow at the Elma Grange.
