John Frank Stankus, 78, lifetime Aberdeen resident and former employee at ITT Rayonier, died Saturday evening, Aug. 27, 2016 at his home in Aberdeen.

John Frank Stankus, 78, lifetime Aberdeen resident and former employee at ITT Rayonier, died Saturday evening, Aug. 27, 2016 at his home in Aberdeen.

John was born on Sept. 1, 1937 in Aberdeen to Frank Stankus and Victoria J. (Osina) Stankus Collar. He graduated from Weatherwax High School in 1955 and joined the U.S. Navy later that year. He was Honorably Discharged in 1963. John returned to Aberdeen where he went to work at ITT Rayonier’s Pulp & Paper Mill as a painter and insulator. He later went to work with Anne Marie’s Café Catering from 2005 to 2014.

John married Marnie Anderson Wilson on April 29, 1984 in Aberdeen. She lives at the family home.

John “Hondo” was a member of the Hoquiam Eagles, 40 et 8 and the Aberdeen VFW.

Bowling was his passion and cooking came a close second. He also liked to entertain at his home. He was Secretary of the local bowling association for 25 years and was President of the youth bowling program.

John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marnie Stankus, Aberdeen; a son Mike Stankus, Bonney Lake, Wash. and a daughter Teri (Mark) McPherson, Federal Way, Wash.; step-son, Jeff (Leah) Wilson, Lynden, Wash. and step-daughter, Nancy Anderson, Walnut Creek, Calif.; two sisters: Ruby Jean White, Clovis, Calif. and Kardee (Bob) Wilson, Aberdeen; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and his dog, Jac’s.

A graveside service with Military Honors will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at Fern Hill Cemetery, Aberdeen.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1313 Broadway, No. 100, Tacoma, WA 98402.
