Session will inform prospects what it takes to serve on hospital boards

So, you think you might like to serve on the board of one of the local public hospital districts? It so happens that the chance is yours if you want it. Between the two hospital districts, there are seven seats on the ballot this fall.

A pair of presentations Wednesday will help let you know what would be involved.

The boards of both hospital districts in Grays Harbor County – District 1 which operates the Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma, and District 2, which operates Grays Harbor Community Hospital, are banding together to bring in Ben Lindekugel of the Association of Washington Public Hospital Districts provide information on public hospital districts, governance, roles & responsibilities, eligibility and the appointment process for board members.

At Community Hospital, seats now held by Miles Longenbaugh, Michael Bruce, David Quigg and Melanie Sturgeon are on the ballot and there is currently a vacant seat following the retirement from the board of Maryann Welch. That seat may be filled before candidate filing time in May, but it will still be up for grabs in the election.

At Summit Pacific, seats now held by Drew Hooper and Gary Thumser are on the ballot this fall.

The events are being held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Community Hospital’s Conference Room C, and at 3 p.m. at the Summit Pacific Wellness Center. The public is encouraged to attend.
