Fire melts Ice in first fire versus police basketball game

Funds raised in inaugural game support youth activities and scholarships in Grays Harbor

Fire melted the Ice at the inaugural Grays Harbor Fire and Ice basketball game held Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Montesano Junior High Gym. The game pitted members from Grays Harbor law enforcement agencies (the Ice) against members of Grays Harbor fire departments and districts (the Fire) in a fundraising effort for the Grays Harbor Deputy Sheriff’s Association.

The fire department team won 74-39, with 22 points from Derek Jensen of Grays Harbor Fire District 7. Ryan Tully of the Pacific County Sheriff’s Office led the scoring for the Ice, putting up 14 points.

The event raised $340 with all proceeds benefitting the Grays Harbor Deputy Sheriff’s Association scholarship program, youth activities throughout Grays Harbor and the “Shop with a Cop” program.

The organizers wish to thank the officials, Dave Hinchen and Byron Bentson, and announcer Rhys Davis for volunteering and the Montesano School District and Pepsi for donating the gym.
